Rumba

rumba
- 1922, from Cuban Sp., originally "spree, carousal," derived from Sp. rumbo "spree, party," earlier "ostentation, pomp, leadership," originally "the course of a ship," from rombo "rhombus," in reference to the compass, which is marked with a rhombus.
RUMBLE - c.1375, probably related to M.Du. rommelen "to rumble," M.H.G. rummeln, O.N. rymja "to shout, roar." Slang meaning "gang fight" is from 1940s.
